IRN BRU Cup 4th rd draw

The draw for the IRN BRU Cup fourth round was made at noon today at the Oriam Scotland Sport’s Performance Centre.

We have been drawn against Falkirk at Somerset Park.

The tie will be played on the weekend of October 8/9

Full information on when the game will be played will be played, and the time of the kick off, will be announced as soon as we have it.

Upturn in crowds

After Sunday’s IRN BRU Cup tie with Airdrie we felt it was time to provide an update on the recent crowds at Somerset Park.

With the Scottish Airshow taking place in Ayr on Friday and Saturday we had no option but to move the game to a Sunday kick off and were very pleased with the crowd of 1135 on the day.

Last season in the Challenge cup, if you exclude the game against Rangers, we had one home match against Albion Rovers and the crowd was 994. In the 13/14 season we had one home match in the Challenge Cup with a crowd of 936 against Falkirk.

Other recent cup matches at Somerset have seen Brechin City (967), Alloa (753), and Queens Park (917).

So with plenty of other attractions on this weekend we were delighted with the turnout and want to thank everyone who made the effort to come along.

So far this season we have had 1549 against Raith Rovers, a home support of 1330. Next up we had St Mirren and the crowd was 2165 with a home support of 1365.

At the same time last season our opening 3 home games saw almost exactly 1000 home supporters which means we have had an increase of over 30% on our core home support at the time a lot of other clubs are seeing attendances fall.

We understand this will be a difficult season and as the manager has said there will be plenty of ups and downs however the backing we have received so far from our supporters has been tremendous and hopefully you will stay with us throughout the season.

Away from home so far we have taken 286 to St Mirren, 264 to Livingston, 257 to Queen of the South and 348 to Dundee United. Again these are fantastic numbers and few clubs will receive the backing our away support gives every second week.

Season Tickets are still on sale providing big savings throughout the season. An adult season ticket is £220 and with 16 home games left would provide a £52 saving if you attended all 16 remaining home games – effectively 3 games free.

Two seasons ago we had just over 500 season ticket holders. By the end of this season it will be above 900, again bucking the trend among many clubs with lowering attendances.

Hospitality spaces for this season continue to sell very well and if you are interested in hospitality for any match please contact Graeme Miller on or phone 01292 263435 (ext3). Hospitality packages start from £65 per person and include a delicious 3 course meal with wine and private indoor viewing box to watch the match.

Of course we are always looking to increase crowds and welcome any ideas or suggestions regarding this to or by phone 01292 263435 (ext 3)

Overall we feel there is plenty to be positive about when it comes to our recent crowds and how much of a part our supporters play in trying to progress the club. Thank you to everyone who has bought a season ticket or attended any of our matches so far, your support is hugely appreciated and we hope it continues.

Airdrie info and preview

On Sunday 4th September at Somerset Park we face Airdrie in the third round of the IRN BRU cup.

Prices have been reduced to £12 for adults and £6 for concessions.

Team News – Craig Moore is still out and Kevin Nisbet is cup tied having already played in the competition with Partick Thistle. Gary Harkins and Jamie Adams both have minor knocks and won’t be risked if there is any doubts about them. Conrad Balatoni goes straight into the squad.

Manager Ian McCall said – :”This is a not a game we are taking lightly, there might be a few changes to the team however that is because certain players have looked fantastic in training and deserve an opportunity. At home we always look to win and after a better performance against ST Mirren on Saturday I feel things are starting to take shape. Airdrie are full time and a good side, they have good strikers and we will need to be at our best to win the game.”

Balatoni signs for United

Conrad Balatoni has today put pen to paper on a season long deal with Ayr United.

Manager Ian McCall said :”The last time Conrad was in the Championship he won it and won every single player of the year award. He has a huge amount of experience in the Premier League with over 100 games in the last 3 seasons. He is a leader, is quick and is a great signing for us. It is one I have been working on for some time and there were other clubs in for him so absolutely delighted to get him. I think this will be a great signing for the club.”

Balatoni has made over 120 Premiership appearances in the last 3 seasons for Partick Thistle and more recently Kilmarnock, scoring 13 goals in the process. He will bring a wealth of experience to the club and is still only 25.

He will wear the squad number 22.
